Expanded Course Description
This course is part of the "Spanish Around the World" experience, taught in Spanish by instructors based in Segovia, Spain. This course gives a broad vision of the present situation of Spain and the countries that currently make up the European Union. At the same time, the institutions and the government agencies of the European Union are studied to understand the reach and future possibilities that this supranational organization offers as a united block immersed in today's world. Lastly, we will analyze the single currency, the Euro, and its impact on the economic future of the “Euro Zone” and the rest of the world’s economic powers. This unique experience has you virtually "travel" to three Spanish-speaking countries: Spain, Mexico, and Argentina. In each country you will have the chance to virtually engage with locals and learn of the fascinating nuances and histories of the Spanish language. Complimentary cultural excursions include tailored, virtual tours and visits in each location, to sites such as the famous Alcazar castle and Roman Aqueduct of Segovia, Spain; city center and UNESCO world heritage site of Queretaro, Mexico; exclusive access and presentations of Mexican artisans' workshops and studios; and personal tours of museums in Rosario, Argentina such as the Museo de la Memoria. Each student will have a host family in each country for a portion of the experience, with whom you will partake in weekly virtual activities.
