Expanded Course Description
This course is part of a three-course experience led by Emina Buzinkic and Will Johnson based virtually in Zagreb, Croatia. This course and INTL: Human Rights & Humanitarian Intervention will be taught remotely. A third optional course will feature travel to the Balkans for 2 weeks in September. If you are interested in participating in the course that will travel to the Balkans, please contact GEO for more information.
Peace Studies in the Balkans is a course about the transition from dictatorship to democracy in the Balkans through an analysis and study of the collapse of the former Yugoslavia and the efforts to end and prevent conflict. As a part of the course, there will be a series of international guest lectures from NGOs in Croatia. Virtual excursions to local museums, courthouses, and NGOs with the faculty will be included. Students will also be able to interact with a panel of locals to discuss different perspectives on transicitonal justice mechanisms. https://international.uoregon.edu/no-passport-needed
