Expanded Course Description
DANC 170 Contemporary I is the study of basic principles of dance movement with an emphasis on the elements of space, time and energy. Proprioception, bodily alignment, shape, movement vocabulary; as well as creativity, musicality, retention, and appreciation of dance as an art form and physical practice are the foci. The creative process involving movement exploration, selection, composition, and refinement is introduced. Articulate verbal description and analysis of dance as an art form help provide a bridge in DANC 170 to the progression in rigor that occurs in DANC 270.
