Expanded Course Description
This course surveys the historical development and current dynamics of politics in the major west European countries. Most of our material is drawn from Great Britain, France, and Germany, with some attention to Italy, and Spain and occasional mention of other countries. We also pay considerable attention to the institutions of the European Union. The first half of the course examines the forces and processes that constructed today?s Europe, with a particular focus on varying national paths to industrialization and democracy. The second will compare and contrast today?s national political institutions, economic policies, institutions, parties and social movements, and foreign policies. |
