Expanded Course Description
Collaboration is one of the most important concepts in planning, public policy, public management, nonprofit administration, and environmental management. Once regarded as a new concept, it has now become standard practice for addressing all range of issues in the public, nonprofit and private sectors. This class addresses collaboration in a range of settings, but my research has focused on natural resources. Collaborative approaches assume that many modern problems are complex, multi-jurisdictional, dynamic and dispersed. They require a wide range of expertise to understand the problem, and an even wider range of stakeholder and public support to develop a solution and implement it. I have included the terms “planning and management” in this class to emphasize that it is not just about producing a plan, but also translating the plan into actions “on the ground.” |
