Expanded Course Description
The course covers content from Chapters 4 and 5 of “Calculus for the Life Sciences”, by Adler.

The course text is a custom edition of “Modeling the Dynamics of Life: Calculus and Probability for the Life Sciences”, 3rd ed, by Adler. Either the custom edition or the national version of the text are sufficient for the course.

MATH 247 discusses techniques and applications of integral calculus, along with an introduction to single and coupled differential equations. Topics include integration rules for polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and the substitution and parts techniques of integration. The differential equations content focuses on mathematical modeling and determining stability of equilibria in autonomous individual and coupled differential equations. Solutions for separable and certain autonomous differential equations are discussed.
