Expanded Course Description
This course will discuss the mathematical techniques used to model measurements and reconstruct images in medical imaging. Some of the main topics include the Fourier transform, the Radon transform, sampling theory, digital filtering, and noise analysis. We will discuss these topics primarily in the context of X-ray tomography, which is the imaging technique with the simplest underlying physical principles. Applications to other imaging modalities, including MRI and PET, will also be discussed.
