Expanded Course Description
Course Goals and Objectives: This course is devoted to understanding when and how we attained the biological and cultural features that make us human. First, the key principles and methods essential to the study of human evolution are introduced: evolutionary theory, geological context and systematic methods. Second, we review the origin, behavior and adaptations of our earliest direct ancestors - bipedal, small brained hominins. Third, we consider how and when the biocultural features associated with the dispersal and evolutionary success of the lineage known as Homo developed.
