Expanded Course Description
Study of the literature and culture of France in the Middle-Ages (5th to 15th centuries) and Renaissance (16th century). Representative texts may include La Chanson de Roland, folk tales, and the works of Marie de France, Villon, Ronsard, Marguerite de Navarre, Rabelais and Montaigne. The course combines close readings of representative genres with a discussion of the socio-political, cultural, artistic, and historical conditions of their times.
