Expanded Course Description
Literary texts can be powerful sites for reflecting the world around us, offering opportunities to critically examine social issues and to elucidate different perspectives and experiences. Literature also holds the potential to build alternative worlds and imagine different possibilities and futures, or “world-making.” This course looks at feminist world-making in literary texts as a form of political theory, as a strategy for thinking critically about the present, imagining “what this world would be like” under different circumstances, and, thus, building alternative worlds from a feminist perspective.
