Students will study what characterizes film production in the Arab world such as the intimate connection between the state, politics and movies. Students will also learn about the political, social, cultural and religious diversity in the Arab World by examining a select number of movies from North Africa and the Middle East, discussing the political and cultural contexts in which they emerged and the issues they treat.
