Expanded Course Description
Environmental theories are proliferating in the early 21st century, across many fields, areas, and topics. This seminar will introduce a diverse range of recent transdisciplinary environmental theory. Topics may include new materialisms, environmental justice, biopolitics, posthumanism and animal studies, extinction, indigenous environmentalisms, and the blue humanities. Students will be required to give at least two presentations; write short papers and a longer, term paper; and attend a related lecture as well as the JSMA art exhibit “Every Word Was Once an Animal.”
