Expanded Course Description
| Fundamentals of Social Science Inquiry is an introduction to fields such as history, economics, anthropology, sociology, political science, geography, law, business, communication, and education. Students study social sciences in the Honors College to explore the diversity of individuals, societies, and institutions in the world around us. Students will learn to engage diverse forms of evidence to develop more nuanced understandings of the complex human world. This writing-intensive course is taught in a seminar format that depends primarily on class discussion and assignments are designed to give students a strong sense of content, methodology, analysis, and argument. Students learn how to express and exchange ideas in both discussion and writing.
This course is part of the three-course series at the 200 level in the Clark Honors College. These courses cover the three overarching disciplines in the Liberal Arts education, which include: HC 221H Fundamentals of Arts and Letters Inquiry, HC 231H Fundamentals of Social Science Inquiry, and HC 241H Fundamentals of Scientific Inquiry. These seminar courses can be taken in any order, and many sections are offered each term to allow for scheduling flexibility. Faculty from the Clark Honors College as well as affiliate faculty from across campus offer these courses, hence every section will be accented by each professor’s specialty and interests. |
