Expanded Course Description
This is a sequence of courses especially designed for prospective elementary and middle school teachers. Mathematical reasoning proof and full understanding of the concepts is emphasized.

Text: "A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers", Billstein, Libeskind and Lott

Primarily Euclidean Geometry in 2 and 3 dimensions with proofs. Topics include sum of the angles in a triangle and any convex polygon. Congruence. Classical constructions with compass and straightedge as well as with computer software (Sketchpad). Similarity. Lines in Cartesian coordinate system. Concepts of Measurement: linear measure, area, and volume. The Pythagorean theorem and its applications. Basic concepts of transformational geometry primarily isometries and their applications in symmetry and constructions.
