Expanded Course Description
Study of the literature and culture of France and the francophone world in the 19th- and 20th-centuries including attention to broad literary movements such as "Romanticism," "realism," "modernism," and "post-modernism." Representative authors may include Hugo, Balzac, Mérimée, Vigny, Baudelaire, Flaubert, Rimbaud, Apollinaire, Sartre, Prévert, Senghor, Duras, and Bâ. The course combines close readings of representative genres with a discussion of the socio-political, cultural, artistic, and historical conditions of their times. |
