Expanded Course Description

This course introduces students to civil rights and liberties issues arising from federal constitutional law across a variety of areas. Students will explore a controversies and tensions spanning privacy and technology, freedom of the press and fake news, democracy in the face of money in politics, reproductive rights, and approaches to LGBTQ equality. Students will gain familiarity with basic constitutional doctrines and landmark United States Supreme Court cases, as well as empirical and theoretical frameworks for understanding their practical effects.
